MCRB has made an input to the UN Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights concerning the High Commissioner’s report on the practical application of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) to the activities of technology companies, which will be presented at the 50th session of the Human Rights Council in June 2022.

MCRB’s input paper summarises MCRB’s research and advocacy in this area over the last eight years in Myanmar, including the Sector Wide Impact Assessment on ICT conducted in 2014/5 which used the UNGPs as a framework. It specifically addresses ‘The State's duty to protect, or regulatory and policy responses’, based on MCRB’s experience of undertaking advocacy towards the Myanmar government and Hluttaw. It makes suggestions on how other governments can play a role through supporting rights-respecting policy and legislation.
