Yangon, Myanmar - MCRB will publish an updated toolkit for companies in Myanmar on resisting corruption and working with integrity later this year, together with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the FCO Prosperity Fund FairBiz project.

The toolkit will update the Good Governance Toolkit for Myanmar Businesses: A Handbook for Resisting Corruption and Working with Integrity which was published in English and Burmese in 2016 and which MCRB has been using in training since.   The update will  include developments since 2016 such as  the Anti-Corruption Commission 14/2018 Guidelines for Company Code of Conduct, and 2018 IRD tax practice statements on gifts and donations, as well as updated survey data on corruption, and other emerging topics relating to corruption.

The first Toolkit included examples of company good practice in Myanmar such as SMART Technical Services’ Business integrity approach; Telenor’s No Gifts policy;  FMI’s Anti-Corruption policy  and Coca Cola’s wallet card for drivers.   Collective action examples  included a Facebook group organised by the construction sector to discuss issues with tenders, and a collective approach by the Ngwesaung Beach Hoteliers Association to dealing with government requests for  free accommodation.  Also included were example of good practice from Government to prevent corruption, such as the DICA’s website and noticeboards with clearly displayed procedures, and feedback surveys.

MCRB is looking for fresh examples, initiatives or data that could be included in the updated guide.  These could include case studies,  company codes and training programmes, and examples of collective action by Myanmar business such as working together to share information about corruption or to engage with government to cut redtape.   They might involve your company, NGO or other organisation or you might be aware of initiatives by others. Please send suggestions by 10 October to [email protected].
