Consultation Held on the Children’s Rights and Business Briefing Paper
Update (May 11, 2017): MCRB has published Briefing Paper on ‘Children‘s Rights and Business’
On 6 December 2016, MCRB held a consultation in Yangon to receive feedback and engage in discussion on the draft Children’s Rights and Business Briefing paper which will be published next year.
The consultation was attended by over 50 people, representing a wide range of stakeholders including business, NGOs, and independent researchers.
Participants discussed the role of business in respecting children’s rights, based on the 10 Children’s Rights and Business Principles (CRBP) developed by UNICEF, the UN Global Compact and Save the Children. In addition to support for the main elements of the paper, participants highlighted the need to:

Develop practical and realistic advice for SMEs and the informal sector (e.g. tea shops and street businesses)

Support apprenticeship opportunities for young workers (children aged 14-17) and safe workplaces. One NGO participant noted that ‘The best thing business can do for adolescents is provide safe working conditions and training’

Incorporate the opinions of working children

Conduct local assessments
MCRB welcomes feedback on the draft Children’s Rights and Business Briefing Paper until January 31, 2017. Following incorporation of feedback, the Paper will be finalised, translated and published in Q1 2017.
To complement the paper, and promote collaboration and reduce duplication, MCRB has compiled a supplemental document, 'Children's Rights and Businesses in Myanmar: Linked Initiatives'. This document has a list of ‘Linked Initiatives’ to promote children’s rights and business in Myanmar. Organisations and companies active in this area are encouraged to send new and updated information to , with relevant websites and contact information.
